Orcutt Creek Backyard Chickens
Welcome to my Backyard Chickens. I have stated a small flock of chickens. I bought 25 chicks from a Hatchery and raised them for 6 weeks till the busted out of the brooder box. I sold all but 4 of the chicks, keeping 2 Buff Orpingtons, 1 White Orpington, and 1 Black Australorp. I turned my sons old pig pen into a chicken coop and that is where they are living.
We are looking forward to getting our own fresh eggs. I had chickens as a kid and remember how good the eggs were. Now my kids will have the same experience.
I am learning alot from some of the chicken Fourms. Backyard Chickens is one of them, and Murray McMurry's has a new forum to get informtions and ask questions.

Gerti started laying at 17 weeks the others arent laying at this point. We are getting small eggs from Gerti every few days. One was a double yoker.
Breeders sites I like
I have been looking at different Breeders sites to just get some information to start with my Backyard Chickens. Here are some of the sites that I came across that I liked.
I like Crackleberry Coop from Montana by Megan Pace. She Raises the Easter Egger chickens that lay different colored eggs. You can find her at this address http://www.cackleberrycoop.com/
Dare 2 Dream Farms is another site I like. I found some very good information on this site on caring for your chickens. They sell chicks, hatching eggs, and pullets, and much more it is well worth checking out. They are located in California. http://www.dare2dreamfarms.com/
I have also got some good information from the Chicken Whisper he has a blog radio show that is great to learn things from. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/backyardpoultry/2012/07/26/backyard-poultry-with-the-chicken-whisperer
